Cyanotype Workshop May 23rd 2026

Cyanotype Workshop
Join us for a day of creative fun sun printing in Sylvia's gardens!
Sun printing is produced on a special cyanotype cotton fabric that gives white and blue images on a deeper indigo background. The process is very simple: images such as leaves or grasses, paper silhouettes or designs drawn on transparencies are placed over dry cyanotype fabric, exposed to the sun or a UV lamp for 5-10 minutes, then rinsed and dried. The fabric is then ready to use as a quilt block, pillows, clothing.
We will work outside in the garden; if it rains, we will use a big UV sunlamp in Sylvia's studio.
Workshop fee includes Packet of blue sateen cyanotype fabric and assorted colored cyanotype squares: $30.00 value
Bring to class:
- cloth and paper scissors
- Images to cyanotype such as: fresh and pressed leaves, flowers, grasses, paper cut-outs, lace. Thin-petalled flowers such as cosmos & clematis print really well. Also any finely cut leaves such as Japanese Maple, pine, or cedar boughs. I will have loads of botanicals, photo negatives, and paper silhouettes for you to work with too.
- Wear clothes you don't mind getting splashed when we rinse our prints.
Looking forward to a fun creative day in La Conner!
