My quilts combine hand appliqué, contemporary and traditional sashiko. I strive to create realistic appliquéd flowers and use sashiko to outline intricate foliage designs. Many of my sashiko designs are pre-printed on background fabric panels, an easy introduction to the art of sashiko.   My latest venture is wool applique, using Wooly Lady's vibrant mottled Painted Prisms.
I also am exploring cyanotype and surface design to create unique fabric. Cyanotype, an old photographic process that produces blue and white images on cloth when exposed to the sun, combines beautifully with sashiko and appliqué. Silk paints that act like dyes can also be sun printed, creating complementary fabric.

We  moved to La Conner, Washington after 13 years on Kauai and the Big Island of Hawaii. I have been a gardener most of my life and quilting is an extension of my passion for plants. I love to teach and hold workshops in my spacious studio/shop where I have all the facilities for large classes, printing and dyeing. We run a wholesale and retail online business of my patterns, fabric kits, books and supplies.
